Gelateria Badiani

badiani-firenzeReview by Bridget Thomson
My experience at the Badiani Gelateria was a very good one. Our group met at the Duomo and walked to the gelateria. The walk from the Duomo was about 30 minutes. However, once we had the gelato the walk was well worth it! When we arrived at Badiani we noticed it was a very nice gelateria. The aesthetics of the inside were very pleasing. I also noticed that it was more than just a gelateria because you could see a receptionist desk, a full bar, and many tables in the back. We went up to the gelato and were immediately greeted by one of the employees. She asked if we wanted to sample anything and gave us her recommendation of her favorite gelato flavors. Each member of our group picked 2 different flavors so we could each try a variety of different gelato. I picked pistachio and a flavor she recommended called bacio. The bacio was a chocolate with hazelnut. Some of my favorite flavors that my group members picked were the dark chocolate with orange, fig cream cheese, babà (creme with rum) and cioccolato peperoncino (chocolate with red chili pepper). The dark chocolate with orange was very rich but the orange left a citrus flavor that was very nice. The fig cream cheese had a different consistency than the other gelato flavors. It seemed to be less smooth and more of an icy texture. The fig brought most of the flavor in that particular one. The babà flavor was very good and the rum was the most prominent flavor. The cioccolato peperoncino was very good and left a little kick in your mouth after you ate it. Of the ones that I tried, this was my least favorite, mostly because I do not like spicy things. My personal favorite was the pistachio. It was incredibly creamy and the pistachio flavor was perfect. I would recommend that to anyone. Overall, my experience at Badiani was very good. I would recommend the place to anyone who wants a good gelato place with a variety of flavors. It is a long walk from the city center, however, it may be the perfect place to sit and have some good gelato with the locals who live in that area.
