The atmosphere of this restaurant was really nice. It was dimly lit and had candles everywhere, adding to the mood. It was fairly crowded when we got there, and people continued to fill in as we ate; reservations are recommended. Many of the people there were locals, which means it must be delicious. The tables were close together, and almost felt cramped, but it was still a calm enough atmosphere, which was perfect for conversation at the table. The servers were incredibly friendly and genuine as well. They made sure to explain the dishes to us and answer any questions that we had. They also checked on us and seemed to truly care whether we were enjoying our meal or not.
The menu, although smaller than that of a restaurant, offered a wide variety of different pasta dishes as well as meat dishes, soups, and desserts. For our meal, we decided to all split an appetizer and then each order a primi piatti and try bites of each other’s so that we could experience many food options. For the appetizer, we split the mixed house crostini. The prosciutto was my favorite, it was very delicate and soft, while still maintaining that salty, hammy flavor that is typical for prosciutto. There was also lardo, which had an interesting cinnamon-like, sweet aftertaste. It was not be something we would pick out, but it was something we had never had before.
For the primi, we sampled chitarroni con aglio, olio, e pepperocino e bacon, ribollita, tortelli di patate al ragù and their famous house dish rigatoni nella zuppiera. All of the pasta dishes were cooked perfectly “al dente”. The chitarroni was listed as spicy, but it was not as strong as expected yet still enough pepper to add something to the dish; the ribollita soup was thick and hearty with a subtle combination of savory and bitter; the tortelli was simple and delicious, very flavorful, comforting and filling and the sauce on the rigatoni was incredible, with the bottom of the pasta dish covered in melted cheese that definitely added a special touch. We had an excellent experience here, and will definitely be coming back in the future.
