We ate at Trattoria Mario on a Wednesday afternoon and arrived there right when it opened at 12pm. The establishment itself was very simple and you could tell the main focus was the food and not exactly the ambiance. The restaurant itself is very small and filled up very quickly; they do not take reservations. We arrived exactly at 12:00 and the restaurant filled up within 5-10 minutes. The service was fast and the servers were friendly. They have lots of newspaper and magazine clippings posted around the restaurant highlighting some of the great reviews and their rich history. The menu was only hand written on the wall in Italian so we had to ask for a little help translating some of the menu items.
The kitchen is exposed and you can see through the glass to look at them cooking your meal. We ordered the spinach and ricotta ravioli, and tortelli di patate al ragu, as well as the Bistecca Florentina. The quality of our meal was great. The server told us the pasta was handmade every day and always fresh. The pasta tasted very fresh and had lots of flavor, and the steak was cooked perfectly and traditionally what you would expect from a Florentine Steak. The portions were large and what you would expect for the amount of money you are paying, about 35 euro for the steak and 6/8 euro for pasta dishes. Very authentic and delicious food.
