Pietrasanta: Contemporary Art

Chanelle explores contemporary art at the studio of Emanuele Giannelli, a Pietrasanta-based sculptor as well as owner of Forte dei Marmi’s beloved Giannelli bookshop.

The sculptor Emanuele Giannelli of Forte di Marmi visited us last week to speak about his profession. He invited us to his studio to view some of his work. A few of us students visited this artist today. We were astounded, not only by his art, but by his workplace. Giannelli’s studio is a small brick shed behind his family’s home. Inside you can find pieces of metal and tire rubber, recycled goods, and scrap clay from molded sculptures. Splashed paint and silicone decorate the floors, and an array of small sculptures were piled on the tabletops. While snapping portrait shoots of him, Giannelli shared with us that his inspiration for  art is the industrialism of the western world. He goes on explaining how technology and building are a great part of human development yet makes us so dangerous to one another. This inspiration is made evident in his pieces that portray new millennium cities, buildings, and construction. Emanuele Giannelli is an intriguing man, who delivers art out of thoughts and emotion. I am now influenced to remove all boundaries from my own creativity so that I can also deliver a form of art to the world. Visit the artist’s website at www.emanuelegiannelli.it.
