Seeing Music: at the Russian concert with the Mayor and Andrea Boccelli

We were invited by the mayor of Forte dei Marmi, Umberto Buratti, to a quartet of young Russian musicians who performed at Forte dei Marmi’s Chiesta di Sant’Ermete. Our team met opera singer Andrea Boccelli as well (see photo below)! Kayla McCaig reports on not only hearing music but seeing it, as we continue to explore the Italian Riviera through the five senses. The sense of sight is especially poignant as Boccelli’s lack of sight demonstrates how music can create new visions through sound.

The Mayor had invited us to a concert at the town church. It was not an ordinary concert but a Russian quartet of string instruments playing beautiful compositions. Have you ever listened to music and you could paint a picture in your head like a movie? This music was so beautiful I could close my eyes and picture different stories. One of the pieces I could see a lady and a man falling in love then something happened and they were fighting, but they fell in love again. In another piece I saw a lively party, almost like a reception, and there was many people dancing and lots of smiles.  I like being able to see the music. Hearing the soft vibrations of the stringed instruments was so soothing to end another beautiful day on the Riviera in Italy.
