Turning a Table (wine) Upside Down

One of the TuttoToscana James Beard events offers an extremely unique wine. It’s called Rosa dei Venti, and it comes from the Corte Pavone estate in the Montalcino area. This wine is a sweet wine, the only one in Italy that is made from 100% Sangiovese, the king of Tuscan grapes. We are bringing this wine with us because its story and origins is a perfect expression of the concept of tipicità that we want to bring in New York City. The owner of the estate is from a family that originally comes form Bolzano in the region of Trentino. As you may or may not know, Trentino, and mostly the northern Italy, is well known in the world because of their special tendency and capacity to produce sweet wines.

The Loacker family opened an estate in Tuscany and wanted to maintain the characteristics of their original culture, thus experimenting the traditionally northern production of sweet wine with the grapes that are found in Montalcino,in the proximity of Siena. These wine producers have 22 years of experience in the wine and agricultural field. They are also well-noted for the enologist who keeps his vineyards free from chemical products, using and developing natural anti-bacteria. Many innovative Tuscan wines are produced by this family and the “Rosa dei Venti” is without a doubt one of their most interesting wines. Its cherry color, floral perfume and fruity flavor give this wine an intense, but at the same time soft, taste. It is unforgettable whe

paired with cheese. But did you know that this extremely unique wine is also a TABLE WINE? This is due to the fact that this kind of sweet wine cannot be labeled with a DOCG appellation like the majority of Loacker wines because a sweet wine produced with Sangiovese is simply not registered.

In conclusion, this wine will be brought to the James Beard Foundation to give a strong example of how diverse the single cultures in Tuscany and all of Italy are. We will also be serving other wines from this farm. We are waiting for you at the James Beard Foundation from Friday October 22 through Sunday October 24!
